Stochastic Modelling
Current research projects under the Stochastic Modelling cluster include:
Energy research: Professor
Stein W. Wallace, Dr Zhan Pang and PhD student Pedro Crespo Del Granado
have established a close cooperation with researchers (under Professor
Asgeir Tomasgard) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology,
Trondheim, Norway, on energy research. As part of this, Lancaster
University is one of the international partners in the newly established
Centre for Environment-Friendly Energy research (CenSES), established
in February 2011. The centre is funded by the Norwegian Research
Council, has a budget of 30 million EURO, and has over 30 partners. We
are seeking a way to connect this contact with LANCS. Professor
Tomasgard has been appointed LUMS Distinguished Visiting Scholar for
2012. He will visit Lancaster early in 2012, and we hope to organize a
LANCS workshop on stochastic modelling in energy research during his
visit.- Central planning problems in the shipping industry: Professor Kjetil Fagerholt and his PhD students Giovanni Partuso from The Norwegian University of Science and Technology will visit Lancaster throughout the academic year 2011-12. They work closely with Prof Stein W. Wallace on central planning problems in the shipping industry where uncertainty is of great importance, in particular the instalment of abatement technologies in large vessels (to meet present and future emission regulations) and fleet management for the world’s largest RoRo fleet.
